I Left My Heart in San Francisco

I left my heart in San Francisco. Literally.
Matt and I have been long distance for over two years now, the majority of our relationship! It hasn’t been easy, but we’ve always made it work. San Francisco isn’t too far away from OC, but I’ve missed him every day that we couldn’t be together. Eventually, a long distance relationship comes to the point where a decision needs to be made. His job wasn’t bringing him home anytime soon, so we made the choice for me to move up there.

I’ve fallen in love with the city through all the visits I’ve made, so I wouldn’t mind calling it home, but I think the main reason I’ve loved SF so much is because it was our time together. We could go on an adventure, stroll the city streets, or lounge at home and watch a movie.
That saying “home is wherever I’m with you” really rings true here, so I am beyond excited to share a home with the person who has always felt like home to my heart. I finally get to come home to Matt every night instead of just a phone call on the drive home, and that’s something I am so looking forward to.

Sometimes change happens quicker than expected, but I believe it’s all for the best. I am all packed up (almost) and I bought a one way flight for Saturday, June 2nd, then I start a new job (which I’m thrilled about!) four days later. EEK! It’s all coming up so soon. I’m excited for new beginnings, and the nerves haven’t hit me…yet…so stay tuned for future updates.
Love always,
Rae

Closet Shopping: Skirt + Crop

41706864_unknown.jpg
Crop tee: Forever 21 (similar here & here); Skirt: Marshalls; Mules: Adam Tucker; Earrings: JC Penney; Sunnies: RayBan; Bag: Michael Kors

I have a love for shopping, but I can’t buy new things all the time. For one, if I bought all the clothes & accessories I have my eye one, that would be a big bill! And two, where would I put it all?!

So let me fill you in on a secret…sometimes it’s fun to shop your closet! Find pieces you might have forgotten about or pieces from a different season, and find ways to give them new life! Pair them with something unexpected or layer it with something else to make it feel fresh.

In today’s post, none of these pieces are new. I wear this skirt on repeat but I use it on cooler spring days with a chunky knit sweater instead, or I layer it with a burnt orange long sleeve & cardigan in the fall.

With a skirt, it’s easy to automatically think summer, but with some creativity, you can wear things year round. Since we are approaching summer now, I brightened it up with a pop of yellow and knotted up my tee for some flair (yet another way to make something old feel new again). Another thing I love to re-wear are jumpsuits by throwing a sweater or a tee on top to turn it into pants (maybe that deserves it’s own post).

Do you constantly buy new clothes? Or are you good at revamping the things you already own? If you have any other revamping secrets or suggestions, I’d love to hear!

Thanks for hanging out!
Love always,
Rae

Bell Sleeves & Spring Blooms

Florals. Dresses. All the spring things. I particularly love the sleeve detail on this dress. Ruffle sleeves are having a moment, and I think it was a nice change to find a dress with sleeves instead of the tank dresses i usually opt for.

The colors contrasting against the black is what originally caught my eye about this dress, and with a ton of different colors in the floral pattern, you can accessorize it so many ways. I added the turquoise belt, but you can do colorful earrings, bright colored shoes, or minimal accessories and let the flowers speak for themselves.

I found this dress on clearance at Old Navy and they have some pretty good options in the clearance section, but they have tons of cute new dresses too! And jumpsuits! I picked up a yellow floral jumpsuit for Easter (find it on Instagram here), so I’d suggest heading into your local Old Navy or shopping them online because there’s always a sale, and always some fun finds! Use code “THANKYOU” for 30% off their site today!

Have you stocked up on spring dresses yet? I’d love to hear how you’ll style them!

Love always,
Rae

Lovely Little Graphic Tee

Tee: Target; Skirt: Loft (similar here); Bag: Urban Expressions via Bloomingdales; Shoes: Adam Tucker via DSW; Hat: Urban Outfitters; Belt: H&M

Más amor por favor! So much love for this graphic tee, and you’re going to love the price! It is on super sale at Target, and the quality is fantastic. The font has a caviar texture to it and the sleeves come rolled, which is a nice detail. Plus, there are so many other cute graphic tees at Target, making now a good time to stock up.

I love the simplicity of graphic tees. They literally pair well with anything from skirts to jeans to yoga pants. I love layering a graphic tee over a dress to turn it into a top and skirt combo!

This black and white number can easily be accessorized, so have some fun adding in any color you please. Brighten it up, pair it with some spring pastels, or keep it monochrome with an all black and white look.

Sizing tip on this tee: You can tell by the shape of the shirt that it’s meant to fit loosely, so if you do like your tees more fitted, I’d suggest sizing down. I personally prefer loose tees, and this fits nicely on the shoulders and sleeves, so the Small worked well.

What’s your favorite way to wear a graphic tee? I’d love to hear in the comments!

Love always,
Rae

Pants Party: Going Bold

Pants: Express; Tee: CottonOn; Earrings: Forever 21; Bag: Bloomingdales (similar here); Booties: Forever 21 (similar here)

It’s been almost a month since my last post, and quite frankly, I’m not sure why. I’ve had photos ready the entire time, but the words weren’t there to go along with them. Writer’s block in full effect. I guess I’ve just had a ton of things on my mind in the real world that I couldn’t find the mental space to escape and blog for a minute. Sometimes the best way to get over that hurdle is to just write, and even if it doesn’t feel like my best, it will probably get me back on track.

So let’s jump right in and talk about these pants! The good news is that in the time it took me to get this post written, these pants have gone on sale. I blogged about these red pants a while back, and I loved them so much that I thought I needed another similar pair. Enter: these striped beauties from Express.

Now, this pair is a total upgrade from the red ones. Don’t get me wrong, I adore the red pair and considered buying them in black too, but when I bought those, I had to have them tailored to my height and have a zipper installed (the stretchy waistband wouldn’t fit over my hips and going up a size was too big in the waist! #petiteproblems). I have a great tailor though, so those adjustments were well worth it in my opinion. However, I didn’t have to change a single thing about this pair!

Express offers tall, regular, and petite sizes, so these fit like a glove. Plus, I had a coupon so the $80 ticket price didn’t scare me. If you aren’t already, become an Express Next member…your wardrobe will thank you.

I styled these pants with a simple tee here, but now that it’s warmer out, I will wear them with some bright colors. The stripes are neutral, so any color will go, even a cute graphic tee will look good! Don’t be afraid of bold prints. Statement pieces are so much fun!

Would you rock these bold striped pants? Or are the solid version more your style?

Thanks for following along, and for sticking out the dry spell with me. I promise I have more content comin’ at ya soon!

Love always,
Rae

Spring It On: Matchback Sets

It’s official, spring has sprung! Bring on all the florals and pastel colors. Okay, maybe it doesn’t ALL have to be pastel. I found this outfit at Target, and I love how the bright floral print contrasts the black background. The best part is it’s actually a two piece set! Match-back sets are a must in any closet. It’s important to have versatile pieces in your wardrobe to really maximize the amount of time you can use things.

I’ve talked about cost-per-wear in this previous post, and it’s something I always try to be mindful of when shopping. Match-back sets are a smart investment because they provide maximum cost per wear, as you can create so many looks from just two foundation pieces. You could wear this set together to look like a dress, style the skirt with a tee and leather jacket for some edge, or pair the top with slacks and a blazer for the office.

41699024_unknown.jpg

This fun combo is from Target’s Who What Wear collection and is currently on clearance…woohoo! The print is gorgeous and the combination of black and bright colors makes a perfect transition from fall to spring.

Check out the looks below to see the difference when the skirt is paired with another shirt. I went for solid black in this look, but I would also love it with orange or light blue. I actually had a gold tassel necklace that looked so cute over the black tee, but during the shoot I completely forgot to put it on because, hey life happens!

41699472_unknown.jpg

Anyway, if you haven’t invested in some matching sets yet, get on it because they can seriously elevate your closet. You can get so many outfits out of just two pieces; it’s the best feeling!

Do you have any match-back sets in your closet? I’d love to hear how you get creative styling them!

Thanks for dropping by, and happy spring!
Love always,
Rae

Accessorizing with Nice and Bella

Need something to perk up your Monday blues? How about some fun jewelry! I have partnered with Nice & Bella to style a few cute pieces of their collection and they have given me a coupon to share with you (see details below). If you’re not familiar with Nice & Bella, you can find them online and find their vendors at a variety of shows. Consultants frequently sell these pieces at boutiques, in-home parties, and as vendors at events.

There are so many options to choose from that it was even hard to decide what to use for this shoot! I could have done so much with all the earrings, and they even have sunglasses and purses! In the end, I decided to style some gold pieces, a super fun choker, and a couple silver pieces. Of course, I threw in a bag and a pair of sunnies from their collection, too.

41705712_unknown.jpg

The layered gold necklaces pictured are actually separates, which means more versatility, but I when I saw the two pieces, I knew it would be a cute spin to pair them together. They complemented the gold “love” bracelet perfectly.

For silvers, I paired two similar bracelets together with a silver pair of earrings. These arrow earrings are really cool because they are sold as one piece, but you can actually slide the dangling arrow off the backing and wear the circle piece on its own for a completely different look. You already know how giddy I get over things that can be worn multiple ways, so these earrings were a total win!

41704880_unknown-e1520281903340.jpg

41705184_unknown.jpg

Last and far from least, I styled the choker. It can be wrapped around and tied in front, as pictured, or you can wrap it another time and tie a smaller knot in the back if you want a different look. Personally, I thought the bow was a cute touch, so I tied it in front. Again, score for versatility.

You can find these and tons of other pieces on the Nice & Bella website and if you’re shopping there, I have attached a coupon below, valid until 3/10/18.
(Enter code “74D66DCF” when checking out. See coupon below for details.)

I’d love to see how you wear your Nice & Bella. Tag me on Instagram or tell me here in the comments how you wore your jewelry. Have fun accessorizing!

Love always,
Rae
